A Picture Is Never As Good As The Real Thing

My life has changed dramatically!
I'm really excited.
I'll fill you in since you asked.
My schedule has allowed me some time in the morning a few times per week just for me.
Some of you may understand, and some may not. What has happened is this...... My 5 y/o is now taking the bus, which means that either me or my wife will get him on the bus at 7:45 am, and my 3 y/o can now be dropped off at 7:30 am at daycare, and, here it is........
I don't have to be at work until 8:30!! That is practically a half hour of "me time".
So I have used this time over the past few days to go down to the bog and walk, hike, "forest bath", whatever you want to call it. Just me. Alone. It has been completely invigorating for me.
Today at the bog I took a few pictures. I enjoy "capturing the moment" but what really struck me today as I was snapping away, is how taking a picture is nearly pointless.
I started thinking about how looking through my phone at the "pics" never gives me what a walk through the forest gives me.
Never.
The damp flexing of the forest floor beneath my feet, the sounds of geese overhead, the smell of the trees and fresh air, the rustling of forest creatures scurrying around. The stillness of the morning fog as it barely creeps through the distant hills.
I also made this decision for myself. Today I decided to not think about figuring my life. During my walk I decided not to think about my business, or my family, my wins or losses, but I just decided to be in the forest.
The picture is never as good as the real thing. Walking through a museum is never as powerful as putting the brush to the canvas. Flipping through history books never compares to standing in the middle of history.
Experiencing the moment with all five senses connects me to something. I'm not all that sure of what it connects me to but it allows me to be grounded in a way that is really beneficial for my being.
